Holiday Crafts for Your Preschooler

The holidays are all about spending time with those close to you. For parents of preschoolers, that can mean coming up with lots of ideas to keep your child entertained at home. This year, you can celebrate this special season with your preschooler while allowing her to unleash her creativity and imagination. North Tampa Christian Explorers, a preschool in Wesley Chapel, has some ideas for fun and festive crafts for you and your child to ring in the holiday season.

Cards
Receiving Christmas cards from a thoughtful loved one always brings joy during the holiday season. So why not let your preschooler get in on the fun by creating some of her own Christmas cards? If your child likes to paint, she'll love making these cards with cookie cutter prints or fingerprint penguins. Or, try these cards decorated with cutouts from old magazines. Your child will have fun flipping through them to find the right colors, and you can get rid of some clutter! Young kids who enjoy coloring will have a blast creating these ornament cards. These crafty gingerbread men cards will stand up on their own, perfect for putting on display when they're done. Your child will love getting creative when making and decorating these festive cards, and the loved ones who received them will appreciate the handmade gesture.

Ornaments
This year, shake up the time-honored tradition of decorating the Christmas tree by helping your preschooler make some of her own ornaments! For an easy, independent activity, try these simple bead wreaths made by threading beads onto a pipe cleaner. Hama beads can be used with cookie cutters to make a variety of different ornaments. If you need a quick ornament activity, your child can make these reindeer ornaments with corks in about 5 minutes. Your preschooler can use popsicle sticks and buttons to create these cute snowflakes. And while you have the buttons out, use them to accentuate these salt dough hearts. Once your child has created her special ornaments, be sure to let her place them proudly on your family's tree.

Decorations
Your preschooler can help deck the halls of your home this year with these adorable decorations! Let her make a garland for your tree by twisting pipe cleaners into rings or stringing some colorful pom poms together. Or, she can create some window decorations like these yarn-wrapped ornaments or these tissue paper ornaments made to look like stained glass. You could even help her make a beautiful Christmas wreath with a paper plate and construction paper, or with materials gathered from nature! Your child will love getting to see decorations she made herself adorning your home all winter long.
